Plakias is a former fishing village at the south-coast of the district of Rethymnon. To the left at the mountains there's Selliá, Myrthios is to the right, between both is Kotsiphou-gorge with its marvellous vegetation.
The surrounding countryside is rich in natural beauty. Following the road to the west - with the White Mountains to the right - Franko Kastello, the Imbros-gorge and Chora Sfakion are further along the way. Finally the road which gets more and more narrow ands at Agios Ioannis,
